This is the first in the series of 'The Glasshouse Collection'. This painting depicts a primula auricula, one of Hannah's favourite species of flowers.
The inspiration behind the Collection's name is twofold.
Potted auriculas remind Hannah of the potted plants that are sold in The Palace Gardener in Fulham, where you can find her favourite cafe: The Glasshouse.
Auriculas are also traditionally grown in the shelter of a 'theatre', half outside, half in, so Hannah grew hers on the window sills in her art studio. It is bathed in sunlight, thanks to big windows, but protected from the elements, similar to a glasshouse.
Always looking to paint from life, Hannah cultivated these delicate flowers in her studio in January so they would flower in time for the beginning of spring.
42.0cm x 29.7cm (A3), unframed.
